Making a personal injury claim

Modern day life is full of potential risks and it is impossible to prevent all accidents and mishaps that result in personal injuries.

In recent years there have been hundreds of person injury claims in the courts as a result of accidents that were the fault of someone else other than the injured party.
Common claims have resulted from:

Car accidents
Trips over broken paving slabs
Faulty toys and other consumer products
Botched operations and medical procedures
Unsafe buildings and other structures
Dangerous potholes

Sometimes if you are involved in an accident, you have no one to blame but yourself. For example, if you are cooking in the kitchen and cut yourself on a knife, the blame for the injury would likely fall on your own shoulders!

Having said that, a large number of people are hurt or injured because of the actions or negligence of somebody else. Sometime such personal injuries are the result of a deliberate act, negligence or reckless behaviour whilst some people are simply unaware of how their actions have an impact on others.

Whilst we all have to take responsible for our own actions, everyone has a right to make a personal injury claim if they are not to blame for the accident.

The most sensible course of action following an accident is to seek professional legal advice. Many solicitors specialise in personal injury claims and, thanks to their previous experience, will be able to assess the likelihood of a successful claim.

Some people fear we now live in a compensation claims culture, but this is not the case. Although the number of successful claims for personal injury may have increased in recent years, there still needs to be clear evidence that somebody other than the claimant was to blame. The figures really reflect that an increasing number of UK residents are exercising their right to fair compensation when someone else has not taken their wellbeing into account.

A typical claim for personal injury is;
